What Happened?
You may be aware, but recently an alleged massive database of AT&T mobile users was leaked online. The database appears to be from a 2021 compromise (although AT&T is denying they were compromised). The database was leaked earlier this month and contains tens of millions of accounts.
Industry Defender has discovered a tool that allows you to see if your data was involved in the leak. You can find that tool at (https://att.pentester.com/).
Referencing our database, we discovered that 13% of our membership came back positive for having data involved in the leak.
Defender Recommendations
We recommend first that you go see if your data was involved in the leak. This is especially true if you were an AT&T mobile customer in 2021.
Please note that for those involved in a family or corporate plan, the breach check would only identify the owner of the plan because that is who has entered their information (name, physical address, and Social Security Number) into the account. Therefore, it’s very possible that you maybe impacted even if your phone number did not trigger a positive result.
For those who have accounts involved in the leak, as a precautionary measure, we recommend reviewing your security settings and monitoring your accounts for any suspicious activity. Should you have any concerns or require assistance in securing your accounts, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at Industry Defender.
Many of the breached accounts involved social security numbers as well. If your social security number was stolen, we recommend freezing your credit if you have not done so. You should freeze your credit with all three credit bureaus (Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian). It is a good idea to have your credit frozen regardless, unless you use your credit regularly (which most people do not). Freezing your credit makes it more difficult for bad actors to open accounts in your name.
Also, we recommend sharing this tool with all of your team members so that they can see if their information is involved in the breach.
If Defender can help guide you in any one of these areas, please feel free to reach out to us at memberservices@industrydefenders.com at any time.
